Recreational Water Facility Hazard Ratings:

Environmental Health Officers assign a Hazard Rating of Low, Moderate, or High on each commercial and public pool inspection report. Details of the issues and circumstances that determine a specific rating are as follows:

Low: At the time of the pool inspection it was found to be in general compliance with the Swimming Pool, Spray Pool, and Wading Pool Regulations (Health Act). No critical hazards were identified, and either no, or a limited number of minor operation or maintenance issues were identified.

Moderate: At the time of the pool inspection it was found to be mostly in compliance with the Swimming Pool, Spray Pool, and Wading Pool Regulations. However, there are some difficulties related to the operation that require correction in order to ensure long-term protection of public health.

High: At the time of the pool inspection significant problems were noted relating to the safety of the pool and /or the maintenance and operation of the pool. The pool is not in compliance with the Swimming Pool, Spray Pool, and Wading Pool Regulations. A high hazard rating that is considered an immediate risk to the public must be addressed immediately or if the circumstances cannot be corrected immediately the pool will be ordered closed. Pools identified to have violations that are not considered an immediate risk to the public, but still warrant a high rating, must be corrected by the operator in a designated time period.
