This facility is currently under a Boil Water Notice
Underlying Problems: The source water for the water system is a shallow well with a depth of approximately 3.2 meters. The well is under the influence of surface water. The quality of the surface water/source is questionable. The efficacy (concentration and contact time) of the chlorination in disinfecting the source water to produce potable water is uncertain. From: The source water for the water system is a shallow well with a depth of approximately 3.2 meters. To: The source water for the water system is a shallow well with a depth of approximately 7.0 meters.
Steps Taken to Remedy: The operator was contacted by telephone on September 26, 2011 at 18:05. The operator was informed of the recent unsatisfactory sample results and will inform all users to boil their water prior to use for drinking, brushing teeth, and food preparation. Well has been superchlorinated and the distribution lines have been flushed in response to previous water sample results. Inspection by Northern Health is being arranged. The operator is planning to submit water samples on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Water System Inspection conducted on September 30, 2011. Free available chlorine measured at sinks pre- and post- reservoir were less than 0.1ppm. Operator was directed to adjust the chlorine injector to ensure that 0.2ppm FAC residual was maintained throughout the distribution at all times. No additional water treatment is required at this time. Well and reservoir has been chlorine shocked according to the operator.
Corrective Actions Remaining: 1. Disinfect the well, distribution system and reservoir. 2. Additional treatment may be required, subject to inspection findings and the degree of surface water influence. 3. It is required that the results of 2 consecutive water samples from the Gulbrandser and John Hamblin’s House sampling locations, taken a minimum of 24 hours apart, are absent for Total Coliform and E. coli. These results must be submitted to the Northern Health before the removal of the Boil Water Notice will be considered. |
