Underlying Problems: Shallow dug well is approximately 6.0 meters (~20 ft) deep. Only chlorine is added as a means of disinfection for this GUDI (groundwater under the direct influence of surface water) source. No studies or analyses have been conducted to prove that this well is not under the direct influence of surface water or at risk of pathogens. Current chlorine contact time is not adequate for the treatment of pathogenic protozoa. | |
Steps Taken to Remedy: Operator is planning a meeting with all the water users to discuss next steps and strategy to install further treatment. Operator is arranging to send a water sample for chemical analysis. | |
Corrective Actions Remaining: 1.Operator must obtain Waterworks Construction Permit from Northern Health Authority. 2.Water treatment system must be installed, followed by an inspection conducted by the Drinking Water Officer/Environmental Health Officer. 3.After the previously noted actions have been made; it is required that the results of 2 consecutive water samples, taken a minimum of 24 hours apart and that are absent for Coliforms and E. coli, be submitted to the Health Authority before the removal of the Boil Water Notice will be considered. |
