Violations:
A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.
Code | Description / Observation / Corrective Action |
311 | Critical Other (specify below) Observation: A public drinking water tap (located just south of the visitor’s centre on Babine Drive) did not have a posted copy of the boil water notice. Corrective Action: A sign should posted at this location for the duration of the BWN to alert water users to boil water before consumption (the operator was notified during inspection and agreed to do this). |
312 | Interruption of treatment Observation: PW staff said that there have been problems with the chlorine-dosing pump. Sometimes a bubble has been visible in the chlorine pump lines, indicating that no chlorine injection is being performed. An interruption of chlorination could allow the survival of bacteria within the water system. Corrective Action: The chlorine pump must be fixed, either by PW staff or by a plumber. |
320 | Other (specify below) Observation: Inaccurate measurements of raw water pH and turbidity are being taken. Some of the recorded turbidity data was in negative figures (e.g. a turbidity of -5.56 NTUs was recorded). The pH meter was reading a pH of 11.23 for a raw lake water sample (the EHO’s test kit measured a pH of 7.7). Corrective Action: The turbidity and pH parameters of the raw water must be accurately monitored. High turbidity levels and high pH can both reduce the effectiveness of free available chlorine disinfectant and must be accounted for. The devices used by PW staff for measuring pH and turbidity should be calibrated. |
