Comments
Water system is currently under a boil water advisory. Water water advisory is due to turbidity and has been in effect since November 11, 2020. During the inspection the Turbidity of the final water exiting the treatment plant was >1 NTU. Long term solutions will be to require the water system to upgrade the treatment to meet the Provincial standards for surface water. A meeting was conducted on September 30, 2020 with the Island Health Public Health Engineer where it was outlined where and how the current treatment did not meet the BC surface water treatment objectives. A new operating permit will be drafted by the Health Officer to outline timeliness for compliance to meet these objectives. Short term - please provide a plan or a goal to the Health Officer with a timeline for removing the Boil Water Advisory. THM average for 2020 was 97.9 µg/L (MAC = 100), HAA 83.2 µg/L (MAC= 80). The operator has implemented corrective actions and the last three samples for both THM and HAA have been below the MAC. The latest sample for HAA was done on January 10, 2021 and was at 50 µg/L.
