Comments:
The bacteriological sample range report for 2009 indicates satisfactory water quality was maintained within the distribution system throughout the year. Of the 416 samples submitted for analysis, only four (0.96%) were positive for total coliform bacteria. Two of these samples are from a new sampling site S137 (8925 Hwy 99), the first of which was reported by the lab as OG and included in the e coli report count. It is my opinion however that this is attributable to sampling error (ie insufficient disinfection / flushing of the sampling line) and not representative of the municipal water supply quality. The other two positive tests for total coliform bacteria were found at 1305 Cloudburst Drive during the warmer weather. It is noteworthy that this new distribution system was not under the operational control of the RMOW (although monitored by RMOW), and is likely attributable to depletion of the chlorine residual, and stagnation under low flow conditions. In both of the above noted instances all sample values through the end of 2009 and 2010 (to date) have been negative (less than 1). As previously noted in our 2008 report the RMOW continues to be an excellent example of a well managed water system. In February 2010 we are pleased to note the new UV reactor and appurtenances were commissioned in accordance with your previously approved Construction Permit - which offers significant protection against chlorine resistant pathogens; together with the added benefits of dual disinfection treatment. This is in keeping with best practice and adheres to the multiple barrier approach in safeguarding public health.
