This will confirm our meeting and site inspection of May 11, 2021. Kevin Berryman was in attendance on behalf of Evans Lake Forest Education Centre.
At the time of inspection, the mechanical / treatment room and equipment were found to be in good order with the exception of a leak in one of the UV reactors (currently under repair). As we discussed - it is important to use fresh supplies of sodium hypochlorite, not only to assure proper strength is maintained but to avoid formation of chlorates in solution.
The old / original shallow well that historically served as a source of potable water has been disconnected and locked but otherwise remains intact. VCH would normally expect this well to be formally decommissioned and filled in, however if the intention is to use this as a source of irrigation water, please proceed. Stagnant water in the well may become contaminated and potentially adversely impact the water quality in the new well. By actively pumping the well for irrigation purposes, this stagnation concern should be relieved.
As we discussed, please assure all water samples that are submitted for chemical / physical analysis are taken in laboratory supplied bottles since they are specifically prepared to assure accuracy. Do not rinse the bottles before sample collection and aim to use preservative (nitric acid - also lab supplied) for the 'metals' bottle. On completion of the lab analysis - please also aim to ask for your data in both pdf and excel formats. This will enable multi-year trend analysis and graphing of your data.
