Code   Description / Observation / Corrective Action
101   Constructions/Alterations as per approval of plans/specificatons (Sec 3)
Observation: The main kitchen of this premises has undergone a renovation since the last inspection without obtaining prior plan approval. A general discussion was held about the project during a site visit conducted on July 17, 2013 and at that time, operator was reminded of this requirement verbally and in writing on the corresponding July 17, 2013 inspection report: Section 3(1) of the Food Premises Regulation states: A person must not construct or make alterations to a food premises unless the plans and specifications for the construction or alteration have been approved by a health officer. Section 3(2) states: An applicant for approval under section (1) must (a) submit to a health officer a copy of the complete plans and specifications for the construction or alteration and (b) provide the health officer with any other information the health officer reasonably requires. During today's inspection the following deficiencies were noted: a large area behind the oven is inaccessible for cleaning, the flooring is not properly sealed to the wall, use of the fryers causes hot oil to spray onto the adjacent prep line, drywall at the far end of the kitchen has not been painted or otherwise properly sealed and electrical work is not finished.
Corrective Action: Operator is still required to obtain approval for the work completed by submitting plans as specified in the July 17 inspection report. These plans must now also include a description of how and when the deficiencies identified during today's inspection will be addressed. This information must be submitted no later than Friday January 10th.
402   Food is protected from contamination (Sec 12(b))
Observation: Bins used to transport ice are currently being lined with clear plastic garbage bags. This is not an acceptable practice as garbage bags may be treated with deodorizing chemicals, pest repellants or other substances that may contaminate food.
Corrective Action: Do not use garbage bags to line ice bins unless the manufacturer of the garbage bags is able to confirm that they are made of food grade plastic.
803   Premises is free of conditions which lead to harboring/breeding of pests (Sec 26(b)
Observation: The back storage room is cluttered and disorganized making it difficult to properly clean and monitor for signs of pest activity. Lighting in this area is also very poor. Droppings were noted on the floor indicating there has been pest activity in this area.
Corrective Action: This facility is serviced regularly by a pest control professional, however during today's visit it was not possible to confirm whether the pest control professional had treated this particular space during the most recent round of visits; ensure this area is included in their next visit. This area must also be cleaned, organized and lighting should be improved.
