| 101 | Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity Observation: The alkalinity of the pool was tested and measured at 71 ppm during the time of inspection. Public Health Significance - Pool alkalinity must be maintained at a level between 80-120 ppm to prevent the formation of cloudy water as well as prevent dramatic swings in pH. Corrective Action: Adjust and maintain the alkalinity within the regulatory requirements. |
| 101 | Critical Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity Observation: Free available chlorine (FAC) in the main pool was tested and measured above 10 ppm during the time of inspection. pH was measured at 8.29. Public Health Significance - Pool FAC must be at least 0.5 ppm, but no greater 10 ppm to allow adequate disinfection of pool water to prevent recreational waterborne illnesses while also preventing eye and skin irritation. pH above 7.8 can lead to eye and skin irritation, as well as reduce the effectiveness of chlorine's ability to disinfect. Corrective Action: Lower and maintain the FAC concentration in the main pool to an acceptable level. Lower and maintain the pH between 7.2 to 7.8. |
| 104 | Repeat Improper Turnover of Flow Rate Observation: The pool flow meter was not in operation and the flow rate could not be read from the meter at the time of inspection. Operator has new flow meter on-site but still needs to install it. Public Health Significance - Flow meters must be in operation to accurately measure the flow rate of the pool water to ensure the required number of turnovers are met as per the pool construction requirements. Flow rate meters are also important to ensure that the main drains and skimmers are not suction hazards that could lead to drowning. Corrective Action: Replace or service the pool flow meter and install so that the required straight pipe before and after the flow rate meter is in accordance with manufacturer requirements. Monitor and clean flow meter on a regular basis. |
| 206 | Repeat Inadequate or Lack of Posted Rules and/orSignage Observation: No lifeguard on duty and no signage to indicate no lifeguard on duty was observed at each entrance/exit of the pool enclosure. Public Health Significance - When the pool is open to bathers and no lifeguard is on duty an operator must have visible signage to notify bathers of the lack of supervision in the pool enclosure. Corrective Action: When the pool is in operation, the operator must post a clearly visible sign at all entrances and exits of the pool enclosure to indicate no lifeguard is on duty. |
| 305 | Repeat Improper Maintenance of Pool Surface, Walkways, Floors and/or Construction Observation: Skimmer's weirs were found to be missing. Operator's supplier has them in stock, so he stated it should be easy to replace. Public Health significance - Weirs are important to prevent debris captured in the skimmer from re-entering the pool. Corrective Action: Skimmer's weir must be properly installed to effectively remove contaminant from the surface of the water. |
| 305 | Repeat Improper Maintenance of Pool Surface, Walkways, Floors and/or Construction Observation: Back right skimmer lid was observed sealed shut by floor cement. Public Health Significance - Skimmer basket must be accessible to maintain cleanliness on a regular basis to prevent the growth of potentially dangerous micro-organisms that can lead to unsafe pool conditions. Corrective Action: Operator to ensure pool skimmer lid is removable to access and clean the skimmer basket. Maintain frequent cleaning of the pool skimmer basket. |
