Violations:
A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.
Code | Description / Observation / Corrective Action |
101 | Critical Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity Observation: The Free Available Chlorine was found to be at 0.31 ppm - According to the BC Pool Regulation, the minimum amount of FAC must be 0.5 ppm. However, it is recommended to have the FAC maintained between 1 and 3 ppm. This is to ensure that bacteria and viruses are killed and cannot grow in the pool. The pool was closed immediately by the operator and a sign was posted to inform the public. The operator started manually adding chlorine to the pool. Corrective Action: Raise the FAC to greater than 0.5 ppm - Test the FAC to verify that it is greater than 0.5 ppm before reopening the pool. |
101 | Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity Observation: The Combined Chlorine was found to be at 1.12 ppm - According to the BC Regulation, the CC in pool water must be tested at least twice daily and maintained at a concentration of less than 1 ppm. Having high CC in the pool can cause strong odours, eye/skin irritation, and decreased chorine efficacy. Corrective Action: Reduce the CC to less than 1 ppm and test the CC before reopening the pool. |
101 | Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity Observation: The Total Alkalinity was found to be at 127 ppm - According to the BC Pool Regulation, the TA must be between 80 and 120 ppm. Corrective Action: Lower the TA and maintain it between 80 and 120 ppm. |
204 | Critical Inadequate Operator Training Observation: When discussing matters of the pool with the operator, it was evident that there were gaps in their knowledge as to how they should operate the pool - Support was provided on site. Under the BC Pool Regulation an operator is required to have appropriate training in the opinion of the Health Officer Corrective Action: Enroll pool operator in an approved Pool Operators Level 1 Course within the next two weeks (June 30th, 2023). |
208 | Improper Maintenance of Records Observation: The operator is only testing the pool chemistry once a day in the morning. According to the BC Pool Regulation, the FAC, CC, and pH must be tested at least twice daily. Corrective Action: Ensure the FAC, CC, and pH are tested at least twice daily. |
305 | Improper Maintenance of Pool Surface, Walkways, Floors and/or Construction Observation: The emergency phone was not working. According to the BC Pool Regulation, a telephone for use in an emergency must be accessible. Corrective Action: Ensure the emergency telephone is repaired and in working order. |
305 | Improper Maintenance of Pool Surface, Walkways, Floors and/or Construction Observation: All pool skimmer weirs are missing. Pool recirculation system is not skimming adequately. Public Health Significance - Skimmer weirs help remove debris from the top layer of the pool water and helps prevent the debris from escaping back into the pool. Corrective Action: Install or replace the skimmer weirs in the pool. |
