Violations:
A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.

Code   Description / Observation / Corrective Action
101   Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity
Observation: The total alkalinity was measured at 68ppm during the inspection. The operator tests total alkalinity every Tuesday and the maintenance logs show the total alkalinity measured on the same day as inspection was around 60 ppm. Total alkalinity acts as a buffer to prevent pH fluctuations in pool water. Low total alkalinity may result in fluctuations in pH level between acidic and basic conditions of a solution even when small amount of chemicals were introduced into the pool water. pH being too low may also lead to corrosive water and eye and/or skin irritation in pool users. High pH on the other hand may cause cloudy water, decreased effectiveness of free available chlorine and scale formation. As per BC Pool Regulations, the alkalinity of pool water must be maintained at a level no less than 80 parts per million and no more than 120 parts per million.
Corrective Action: Ensure that the total alkalinity in water is maintained between 80-120ppm. Soda ash (sodium bicarbonate) can be added to raise the total alkalinity.
