Violations:
A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.

Code   Description / Observation / Corrective Action
101   Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity
Observation: Combine Chlorine was measured at 1.08 ppm, re-test showed a concentration of 0.92 ppm. Pools are required to keep combined chlorine levels at less than 1 ppm. High combined chlorine can irritate the eye and skin and lowers the effectiveness of chlorine disinfectants.
Corrective Action: Operator closed pool and plans to shock chlorinate pool to reduce combined chlorine levels to less than 1 ppm and as close to 0 as possible. Continue to ensure testing equipment can measure chlorine levels accurately.
101  Critical Improper Water Chemistry/Water Clarity
Observation: Free chlorine level was measured at 1.28 ppm and re-test showed a result of 0.92 ppm. Free chlorine level at a hot tub should be at 2 ppm or above for disinfection. Improper disinfection can lead to the growth of harmful microbes and build-up of organic matter.
Corrective Action: Operator to increase free chlorine levels to 2 ppm or above. Continue to ensure equipment is capable of measuring free chlorine accurately.
103   Repeat Improper Pool Temperature
Observation: Hot tub temperatures was measured at 41.2 ºC. Hot tub must remained at a temperature of no more than 40 ºC. High water temperatures may burn swimmers and exacerbate some medical conditions, such as heart or high blood pressure issues.
Corrective Action: Operator to ensure temperature of hot tub does not exceed 40 ºC.
204   Inadequate Operator Training
Observation: Operator had not completed any pool and hot tub operating course and lacked general knowledge on running a hot tub, such as backwash procedure, pool chemistry requirements and how to use a test kit. Operator needs to have adequate knowledge in order to maintain and adjust the hot tub safely for the public.
Corrective Action: Operator to complete a training course on maintaining pools and hot tubs. Hot tub should not be operated by an untrained operator without the support from a person with the experience of running a pool or hot tub.
205   Improper Monitoring of Chemical Paramaters or Safety Tests
Observation: The ColorQ tester operator used to measure pool chemistry was inaccurate. Operator was testing hot tub chemistry without the knowledge on how to blank the machine. Inaccurate results prevent operators from monitoring and adjusting pool chemistry properly to ensure pool water is safe for swimmers.
Corrective Action: Operator was shown how to blank and measure chlorine concentration with equipment. Operator should continue to blank the tester before testing for pool chemistry daily.
208   Improper Maintenance of Records
Observation: Operator do not have any record of test results or know the required parameters for hot tub. Operator said they do test daily and uses parameters on the pool test kit instructions which is not the same as the requirement for BC. Without any record, it would be difficult to establish a baseline level for the hot tub chemistry and know when issues arise. Improper pool chemistry can lead to health issues in swimmers.
Corrective Action: Operator to record test results for temperatures, free chlorine, pH, combined chlorine, total alkalinity and cyanuric acid (if stabilized chlorine is used). Free chlorine, pH and combined chlorine should be recorded and checked twice daily. Total alkalinity and cyanuric should be checked and recorded at least once a week. Records should be kept on-site and will be check during follow-ups.
304   Improper Cleanliness and/or Hygiene
Observation: Grime build-up was noted above the hot tub water line. Skimmer basket was filled with debris. Operator do not know that skimmers cover needs to removed for the baskets to be cleaned. These build-up and debris can harbour harmful microbes and increase the combined chlorine level of the tub. Harmful microbes and combined chlorine can increase risk of illnesses in swimmers.
Corrective Action: Operator to clean up grime build-up in hot tub and clean skimmer basket regularly.
305   Improper Maintenance of Pool Surface, Walkways, Floors and/or Construction
Observation: Floating weir was missing from one skimmer intake. Floating weirs skims off pool surface debris from the environment or swimmers into the skimmer, such as hair, bugs and oil, and preventing them from returning to the pool basin. These organic debris can carry harmful pathogen and increase combined chlorine levels.
Corrective Action: Operator to install float weir at skimmer intake.
