Violations:
A summary of the violations found during the inspection are listed below.

Code   Description / Observation / Corrective Action
401  Critical Inadequate concentration of disinfectant
Observation: The logs for the pool show that on more than one occasion and quite commonly the chlorine level was measured to be zero. This is a significant problem. Pool should not be in operational the disinfectant level is zero.
Corrective Action: Must ensure chlorine is maintained at least between 1 to 3 ppm.
402  Critical Inadequate pH controls
Observation: The pH was too high. Ideal range is 7.2 - 7.4 with it not exceeding 7.8.
Corrective Action: The pH must be adjusted to an ideal range.
402  Critical Inadequate pH controls
Observation: The alkalinity was also high. Ideal range is 80 to 120 ppm.
Corrective Action: Must adjust alkalinity to be in the ideal range.
403  Critical Water too cloudy
Observation: Main pool looked slightly turbid. The water chemistry was measured to be : Free chlorine = 1.54ppm; Total chlorine = 2.06ppm; pH = 8.05; Alkalinity = 131ppm.
Corrective Action: The combined chlorine level was at 0.54ppm. This is too high. Must super chlorinate the pool to burn off chloramines.
405  Critical Improper handling/storage of chemicals
Observation: Currently the calcium hydrochlorite is being added manually by staff. There is no chemical feed pump or injection system for disinfectant going into the recirculation system.
Corrective Action: Strongly recommend installing a chemical feeder. Discuss this option with a reputable pool supply company.
405  Critical Improper handling/storage of chemicals
Observation: Personal protective equipment must be worn by staff handling the chemicals as calcium hypochlorite is very hazardous due to its highly reactive nature.
Corrective Action: A follow-up email sent to General Manager to discuss these concerns further.
413  Critical Other (specify below)
Observation: No pool safety plan in place yet for the swimming pools.
Corrective Action: This plan is to be completed by March 31, 2012. A draft version must be sent to the Environmental Health Officer as soon as possible.
