Observation: pH tested at >8.40. Total alkalinity tested at 144 mg/L at time of inspection. High pH and total alkalinity reduces the efficacy of the chlorine and can cause skin and eye irritation to bathers. At time of inspection, the water appeared to have a green tinge.
Corrective Action: Close hot tub and rebalance the chemistry to ensure the proper parameters for pH and total alkalinity are maintained. Consider shock treatment to resolve the green colour of the hot tub water. pH must be maintained between 7.2 to 7.8 at all times to ensure the chlorine is adequately disinfecting. Total Alkalinity must be maintained between 80 and 120 ppm.
