 Underlying Problems: The source of the brown/discoloured water is unknown. It has occurred sporadically at different locations within the distribution system. | |
| Steps Taken to Remedy: After discussions between Northern Health and the District of Stewart, a decision was reached to issue Water Quality Advisory in response to reports of unexplained brown or discoloured water occurring in various locations within the distribution system. The advisory notice recommended flushing brown or discoloured water until it runs clear, and boiling water intended for consumption by pregnant women, children, the elderly and persons with weakened immune systems. Bacteriological sampling of brown/discoloured water and post flushed water was initiated. | |
| Corrective Actions Remaining: The District of Stewart will assess the system and provide feedback on potential sources of the brown/discoloured water, and recommendations to address this issue. Reports from affected water users should be logged to aid in determining the cause of the problem. Further measures such as flushing and disinfection of the distribution system may also be required. |
