This facility is currently under a Boil Water Notice
Underlying Problems: Unsatisfactory water result received (overgrown with total coliforms, 0 E. coli). This is the only recent water sample for the system. Sample collected from a spray nozzle faucet in the kitchen. Operator typically removes the aerator and disinfects the faucet but believes that this step may have been missed when collecting this most recent sample. Water operator explained that the source water was high in turbidity at the time of sample collection due to high rainfall. After treatment, the water still has a slight tinge of colour that is not typical.
Steps Taken to Remedy: - Boil Water Notice issued to the water system. Water operator instructed to notify all water users of the Boil Water Notice in effect. - Operator confirmed the UV treatment system is equipped with a solenoid valve and was in good working condition at time of sample collection. - Operator replaced filters and cleaned the quartz sleeve covering the UV light. - Operator provided the most recent chlorine residual readings (0.42 ppm and 0.38 ppm).
Corrective Actions Remaining: - Operator to re-sample the kitchen tap and submit a sample from the pumphouse after treatment sampling site. - To rescind the Boil Water Notice, two sets of satisfactory samples (0 total coliforms, 0 E. coli), collected at least 24 hours apart, must be received. - Ensure that all disinfection and water treatment equipment is working as intended. - Maintain chlorine residual at a minimum of 0.2 ppm throughout the distribution system. - Hire a treatment specialist to assess the water system and propose an effective treatment system that meets the BC Drinking Water Treatment Objectives. - Submit a complete Application for Waterworks Construction Permit outlining the proposed work to ensure the treatment system meets the BC Drinking Water Treatment Objectives. - Before any work is conducted, the Public Health Engineer must issue a Construction Permit approving the proposed work. - To rescind the Boil Water Notice, the treatment equipment must work as intended and meet the BC Drinking Water Treatment Objectives. - Two sets of satisfactory water results must be received (0 total coliforms, 0 E. coli) after work is completed. - Maintain chlorine residual at a minimum of 0.2 ppm throughout the distribution system. |
