 Underlying Problems: The Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines provides a Maximum Allowable Concentration (MAC) of 0.12 mg/L for Manganese in drinking water supplies.
Chemical analysis of deep Well, collected Jan. 15, 2023, identified manganese levels of 0.33 mg/L.

| Steps Taken to Remedy: Notification about the Water Quality Advisory (WQA) to be distributed to users of Bearberry Meadows Guesthouse water system by operator. EHO has provided the operator help with public communication being sent out to the water users. | |
| Corrective Actions Remaining: 1) The raw water from the well must be treated to bring down the levels of manganese at or below 0.12 mg/L (MAC established by Health Canada) and submit a chemical analysis testing for the treated water showing the levels of manganese at or below 0.12 mg/L
OR
If the individual houses using the well water are equipped with point-of-use water treatment systems (water softeners), they must test the treated water for manganese levels to check if they are able achieving a reduction in manganese levels meeting the levels set by Health Canada at or below 0.12 mg/L. submit individual chemical analysis testing for the treated water from all the four houses.
2) The guidance document for manganese recommends testing quarterly for the first year, to ensure the results are not a one time event and to get a better representation of the concentration. The quarterly sample should be both from the untreated source and the treated (softener) water to get to the most accurate readings |
