This can allow surface water (run-off, rainwater, etc.) to pool on top of the cistern and may allow entry into the cistern, contaminating the drinking water supply. Corrective Action: Raise the stick-up of the cistern to approximately 2 ft. above ground. Ensure lid is secure and all entry hatches are kept closed. |
| 307 | Critical Contamination of finished water - Resevoir Observation: Eavestrough downspout is directed into the cistern through a small opening in the lid. This is contaminating the drinking water supply with rain water collected in the eavestrough. Corrective Action: 1. Empty, clean, and disinfect the cistern. 2. Remove the drain pipe and permanently seal the hole in the lid. Ensure all entry hatches are kept closed and properly sealed. |
