Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: During inspection Licensing observed one emergency exit was blocked and hampered. Manager said she is going to have this addressed today. This is repeat contravention from inspection # SMIA-CH6TAU dated August 10,2022.
Corrective Action(s): A licensee must ensure that supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: During a review of the fire drill records, Licensing observed for this year the months of January, April and September fire drills were not practiced.
Corrective Action(s): : Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded monthly.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 14, 2022 there were eleven children,four staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by October 15, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:

Having a system of clearly indicating documentation of annual Emergency and monthly fire drill
Ensure food and water supplies used as part of the emergency plan is not expired

LO business card was provided.

The inspection report was written on-site and details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment is provided to the manager at this inspection.
