Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection Lysol wipes were observed on the counter in the washroom. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CCCREA. This was corrected during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: The hot water temperature was measured. The temperature was 50.5 degrees Celsius. Please provide active supervision in this area until this is corrected.

STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one employee. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CCREA
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff records are complete.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: The record of fire drills was reviewed. One drill was not recorded for the month of January. In discussion the Licensee stated she has recorded the drill but cannot find the record. .
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire drills are recorded when completed and it is available for review.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The policies and procedures were reviewed. A screen use policy was not observed. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CCREA, #CLAN-BH6NA5, #CLAN-B87URJ
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a screen use policy is created and shared with parents/guardians.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 21, 2023 there were 2 children, 1 staff, and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by March 7, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Licensee.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-The plan to maintain the facility furniture
