Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: In the upper area of the outdoor play area a post topper is cracked and an area of plexiglass is missing exposing sharp edges.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure all areas of the outdoor play area are in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated August 16, 2023 there were nine children and three staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with an ITE staff and a copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
The following were discussed:
Developing a system to have a staff qualification checklist in the facility for on call staff (files are kept in the main office).
