Introduction

This was an unscheduled Routine Inspection for the purpose of inspecting the premise for compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: In the bathroom two mirrors were rusted, with the screws holding the mirror in place were rusty and sticking out of the wall accessible to children, and making it difficult to sanitize.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 12 children's records were reviewed. 6 children's records were missing the immunization status.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep records showing immunization status.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
The COVID-19 Pre-screening was conducted at the door.
During today’s inspection, there were 18 children, the manager, a staff person, and a support staff.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed
Reviewed and discussed the steps to validate ECE certification. Licensing sent a link to the ECE registry through email.
Discussion regarding missing MSP due to waiting for issuance. Licensing stated to make a note in file and follow up with the parent to ensure it's placed in file once issued.
Discussion of the BCCDC guidance for childcare, and the use of masks in the facility.
