Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Licensing observed that the name of the manager was not displayed in the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the name of the manager is displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the outdoor play area and identified the following:
- A gardening tool was placed on top of an outdoor furniture and was accessible to children
- A rake, shovel and a piece of plywood was leaned against the wall and fence which could potentially fall on children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to any objects that may be hazardous to their safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan. 25, 2022 there were 4 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed on-site.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial after each documentation
- Continue to follow COVID-19 policy
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Hand hygiene procedures
- Continue to have indoor ventilation
- Regularly check the BCCDC website for updates
- Continue to check the expiry date of items in the emergency supplies kit
- Remove all items with a DIN # / NPN # in the first aid kit, as parent’s permission is required before using these items on children. Mild soap and water can be used to clean any minor cuts or scrapes.
- Storing and cleaning of beddings
- Food menu and how it is served to children

The report was written off-site (time spent: .33) and a copy was sent to the facility.
