Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection of the play area, it was found that there were dirt particles on the floor and in the bathroom floor. The Licensee explained that this is due to the weather and children wearing outdoor shoes inside. The Licensee stated that general cleaning, vacuuming and mopping of the play area is done at least once a day.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the facility is clean while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: The following was observed:
- Heavy weight barbells were accessible to children in the nap room. The Licensee explained that they are usually stored away but was used this morning and the Licensee did not have time to put them away.
- Beads were observed on the floor of the play area which poses as a choking hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health or safety.

Comments

At this inspection there were 6 children and the Licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will send Licensing a written response addressing the contraventions and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed with the Manager:
Including children's Care Card number on their registration forms. This information can be found on the emergency cards but Licensing recommended to have this on the registration form as well
Safe food storage

The contents of this report was discussed with the Manager and a copy was provided on Oct. 7, 2021. This report was written off-site at the Tri-Cities Health Protection office and time spent includes report writing.
