Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance with the exception of the outdoor play area due to snow covering the play area.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following was observed in the nap room and accessible to children:
- Personal items such as hygiene products were stored in a basket on a shelf
- A cord that was charging a device was hanging from the shelf. The Manager said that the device is used to play nap time music and the importance of keeping the cord away from children's reach was discussed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: A care card number was not obtained for one child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children's files are complete as per required.

Comments

At this inspection there were 8 children and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will sending Licensing a written response addressing the contraventions by Dec. 8, 2022 and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed/reviewed with the Manager:
· Antiseptic wipes in the first aid kit with a DIN number not to be used on children
· How often the nap room is being vacuumed and cleaning schedule of the bathroom
· Paper towels must always be available for hand drying
· Storage of dirty diapers
· Cleaning frequency of children's bed linens

The contents of this report was discussed with the Manager and a copy was provided on Dec. 1, 2022.
