Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Staff do not have Criminal Record Check clearance letters (CRC) through the Criminal Record Review Program (CRRP). The Manager advised that applications have been submitted and that CRC's from the RCMP have been obtained in the meantime.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure CRC's are completed through the CRRP.
Date to be Corrected: Obtain status by May 26, 2023


Comments

At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. Licensing provided a date for addressing the contravention and is requesting a written response by May 29th advising on the status of the Criminal Record Checks.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The following was discussed:

Other ways to keep record of character reference check's if only names and phone numbers were provided
Other ways to keep record of hours of course completion for staff
Ways to keep record of withdrawal dates
Care plans if children have medical conditions

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Manager and the report and risk assessment were written on-site. Licensing advised that copies of the report and risk assessment would be emailed to the facility.
