Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), The Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection Licensing observed a loose cord located at the level where the children's beds were placed. This could present a potential hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CC6RAR.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that loose cords are secured to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed the exits in the school age room. A table and dustpan was placed in front of one of the exits partially obstructing the exit. In addition a second exit had a large garbage bin in front of the exit, partially blocking the exit.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure furniture and equipment do not block or partially block an exit in case of an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19170 - CCLR s.57(2)(j) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (j) a record of any person who is not permitted access to the child.
Observation: During the inspection the children's records were reviewed. Written permission from a parent, regarding access to a child was not observed in the children's record.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete

Comments

At the inspection dated December 13, 2023 there were 24 children, 2 staff, 2 students, the Manager and the Director arrived during the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by December 15, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of the inspection the Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the Manager.

The following was discussed with the Manager:

-Reportable incident reporting
-Lead in the water
-The maintenance plan for the facility
-Adding a CRP mask to the first aid kit
-Ensuring to use the licensed outdoor space for the program

The following will be sent to the Manager:
-3 step dishwashing resource.
