Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Files for eight children were reviewed. The name and telephone number for a medical practitioner was not available for 5 children and the name and telephone number for an emergency contact was not available for 1 child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the name and phone number of a medical practitioner or clinic and an emergency contact is available for all children.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 24, 2021 there were 16 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and a copy provided.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Written permission from parents is needed before sunscreen or insect repellant is applied to children.
Ensure there is a current expiry date on all sunscreen and insect repellants.
A new climber is being installed in the outdoor play area. Please ensure the climber meets all requirements of the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice Safe Play Spaces. If there are any questions about this please contact your Licensing Officer.
If a child has a sensitivity to a food product ensure that the symptoms of a reaction and the actions staff need to take are readily available.
