Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
-Two climbers in the outdoor play area were placed close together and one climber was observed next to a swing set. A 6 foot fall distance is required to be observed around a climber to ensure a safe fall zone. This was corrected during the inspection

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
-A sharp knife was located on the edge of the counter. A child placed their hand on the knife . Licensing removed the knife from the child's hand. This was corrected during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Licensing reviewed the record of fire drills. Three drills were practiced but not recorded for the months of November, December and July.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to record fire drills after they are completed to comply with the legislation.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Licensing observed the attendance records. Two new children that were in the process of completing gradual entry to the program were not recorded on the attendance record. This is a repeat contravention from inspections# CLAN-BB3T6G and #CLAN-C6QP3W
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure any children that are in attendance at the child care facility are recorded on the attendance record.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 25, 2023 there were 7 children, and a staff and the Licensee were present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by September 8, 2023, unless otherwise specified in this report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the Licensee.

The following was discussed with the Licensee:
· Reportable Incidents
· Lead in the Water
· Adding more food and water to the emergency supplies
· The maintenance plan for the facility
