# OBSERVED IN CARE

Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection to routine inspection #SHUN-BNXRYC was conducted today. Areas of the facility that were not reviewed at last routine inspection, due to COVID 19 , were inspected for compliance today (Licensing, Staffing, Polices & Procedures, Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control, Medication, Nutrition and Food Services, Program, Records and Reporting).

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SHUN-BNXRYC have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following;
- Resilient surfacing under one slide is sparse and not sufficient. Potential for a child to get hurt upon coming down the slide. Education provided on how to ensure that there is sufficient resilient surfacing under the slide and climber.
- A wooden sand box in the outdoor play area resting on its side. Potential for it to tip and fall over on a child.
- A Lysol and another cleaning solution bottle in an unlocked cupboard in one of the bathrooms.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Licensing observed the following;
- On one of the slides (twisty slide) there are two patchy areas that the plastic has chipped off.
- On the wooden stove, in the dramatic play area inside the facility, the wood has chipped on the top leaving a sharp edge.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensue that all the indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Date to be Corrected: September 30, 2020.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13010 - CCLR s.22(1)(a) - A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher has not been serviced this year. The Manager stated that someone had come to look at it but may not have serviced it.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that emergency exits and a fire drill system has been approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the follow-up inspection conducted today, September 11, 2020 there were 13 children, 2 practicum students, 1 staff and the Manager present. The Risk Screening - COVID 19 form was completed prior to conducting the inspection. The Manager has addressed the previously identified contravention. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee is required to correct all identified non-compliances by the dates indicated above in the violations section. A written response is to be provided to Licensing on the date specified for Licensing to review that appropriate corrective action has been taken to address all identified non-compliances.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
COVID-19 prevention ; social distancing, cleaning and sanitization practices, assessment of children needs to happen everyday upon arrival and hand washing.
Children's emergency contact information; ensuring that updated information is available.
Sharing of snacks; birthday cakes
Toys; Limiting and rotating.
Process for when a child gets sick at the care facility. COVID 19 Illness policy to be updated.
Work Safe Safety Plan has been posted.
Health and Illness Policy and Procedure needs to be updated
Care plans.
COVID 19 Infection Control Assessment completed and a copy provided to the Licensee.
First aid kit; Licensing suggested adding a hand sanitizer bottle.

The contents of the inspection report was reviewed with the Manager at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site ( .5 hrs ) due to Covid-19, to help promote health and hygiene. A copy of this report was emailed to the facility.
