Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Water in the bathroom used by children measured over 49 degrees and could potentially burn a child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure hot water accessible to children is under 49 degrees.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Although manager has food for 72 hours in the emergency response kit, there is insufficient water for all of the children for 72 hours.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there is enough water for all children and staff for 72 hours to respond to and recover from any emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: One child's file was missing a care card (MSP) number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children have a care card number on file.
Date to be Corrected: April 7, 2019

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: One child's file is missing a doctor's name and phone number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files have the name and number of a medical practitioner.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated April 30, 2019 there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy provided.
