Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17020 - CCLR s.48(1)(b) - A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.
Observation: Children's lunch kits were reviewed during the inspection. Ineffective storage of perishable food items was observed. The LO reviewed this item in depth with the facility manager at the time of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure healthy eating and nutritional habits are promoted.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Five children's files were reviewed and one child did not have evidence of medical insurance plan number. The LO reviewed this item with the staff at the time of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all children's files are complete including Care Card number.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Five children's files were reviewed and one child did not have evidence of a medical practitioner and contact details available. The LO reviewed this item with the staff during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all children's files are complete including Doctor's name and contact details.

Comments

On the inspection date of May 11, 2023 there were 20 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan developed and submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was completed on site, reviewed with the manager and staff and a printed copy was provided during the inspection.

Health and Hygiene Preventative Practices
