Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The physical facility was observed and found to have chipped paint exposing dry wall in several area throughout the facility accessible to children. Two small toilets were observed to have broken parts, one with a broken bowl lid and one with a broken tank lid.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Hot water was measured at 52 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to hot water over 49 degrees Celsius.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 30, 2019 there were 70 children and 12 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the Licensee: Licensee to address contraventions and provide a written response to Licensing on how they were addressed.
Action required by the Licensing Officer: Licensee to review written response and conduct a follow up inspection to ensure contraventions were addressed.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided.
