Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Power cords, damaged toys, tools and debris were observed to be stored near the entrance to the infant toddler outdoor play area. The LO reviewed these items with the manager during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to any object that may be hazardous to their safety.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Two staff files were reviewed and one staff did not have a CRC on file at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure are staff files are complete including valid Criminal Record Checks.

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: Two staff files were reviewed and both staff had evidence of references but were not documented to be confirmed as valid references. LO reviewed reference confirmation practice with the manager during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff files are complete including confirmation or character references.

Comments

On the inspection date of February 10, 2021 there were 54 children and 8 staff and the manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review the corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. This inspection report and risk assessment was completed off site and emailed to the facility the same day.

Social Distancing Practices
Daily attendance practices for accuracy reviewed
