Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.
Covid-19 strategies were in place.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: Licensing observed that the certificate validation for the Licensee was not current. The Licensee had renewed certification and hadn't updated the validation piece.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that staffing files are updated as required.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 3 children and the Licensee present.
Licensing reviewed the facility’s COVID-19 prevention strategies while conducting a key indicator inspection.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Toolis completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report by email.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was provided/discussed:
- Active Play promotion and increased outdoor play
- Hygiene and sanitization practices
- Licensing Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)

The facility has been receiving Licensing Officer’s emails.
