Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practise (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Children are transported to and from school by an adult who does have a cleared police check. However, a clearance check is required to be done through the Ministry.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the correct criminal record check is conducted for staff.
Date to be Corrected: Please provide plan by June 21, 2023

STAFFING: 12210 - CCLR s.23(1)(a) - A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.
Observation: Children are transported to and from school a few times a week by someone who does not have first aid qualifications.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children have access to someone with first aid at all times.
Date to be Corrected: Please provide a plan by June 21, 2023


Comments

At the inspection dated June 16, 2023, there were 3 children present with the Licensee. At this inspection, the above contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed with the Licensee:
-what can be documented in an incident log book
-attendance documentation for school age children
-communicable disease policy and plan
