Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The screen time and active play policies are not available to view on site. Manager states they do have these policies and will request a printed copy from Licensee contact to store on site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure policies and procedures intended to guide staff are stored on site.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: It was observed that the repayment agreements for each child are not kept on site. Licensee contact previously noted that each family has a repayment agreement and the facility's copies are kept off site. Licensee contact is working on relocating a copy of each to be kept on site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all records in sections 56-58 are kept on site.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 6, 2019 there were 7 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Actions required by the Licensee:
Take corrective action by bringing facility into compliance
Provide a written response to Licensing
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy provided.
The following education topics were discussed:
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
· Bill 5 information
· Reportable incidents
· Reviewing care plans yearly
It was noted that the fire extinguisher will need servicing in mid March and the Manager is aware of this and has plans to take care of this.
Also discussed was storing medicated diaper cream out of reach of children. As the children do not go into the washroom unaccompanied and are supervised, this was an education topic.
