Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection was completed to assess compliance with items that were identified at the routine inspection on Jan 21, 2019 inspection #

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following outside the facilty:

-access to the garage where there were plant chemicals that could cause a poisoning hazard. Corrected during the inspection.

Licensing observed the following inside the facility:-
-razors were accessible to children. This could present a potentia cutting hazard. This is a repeat contravention. Corrected during the inspection.
-a lighter was accessible to children. This could cause a potential fire or burning hazard. This is a repeat contravention. Corrected during the inspection.
-furniture polish was accessible to children Corrected during the inspection.
-gates leading to the stairs were not secured. This could cause a potential falling hazard. Corrected during the inspection
-medicines were accessible to children on the table at their level. This could cause a potential poisoning hazard. Corrected during the inspection.

The Licensee and I discussed the concerns to health and safety of the children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a health and safe environment is provided to children at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11170 - CCLR s.16(3)(b) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (b) constructed in a manner, and using materials, that are suitable for the age and development of the children intended to use it.
Observation: Licensing observed a section of the fence in the outdoor playground was not secured and this could present a safety concern as the playground leads onto the neighbours driveway.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fence is constructed and secured to ensure the health and safety of children in care.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: Licensing observed that an active play policy have not been created. The Licensee stated that these were not written. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please create a policy for active play to implement and share with the families

Comments

At the inspection on April 17, 2019 there were 4 children and the Licensee present. This inspection was completed on April 17 2019 and the report was reviewed with the Licensee prior to signing on April 18, 2019. At the inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
