Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area:
- A fresh pile of animal feces. A staff took children outside to play upon Licensing's arrival to the facility. The animal feces was not picked up despite children playing outside and having access to it. The Manager said she would clean it up.
- It appears an animal is digging in the backyard and leaving potholes around the outdoor play space. The potholes could cause a child to trip and fall. The Manager said they are in the process of fixing the backyard.

Licensing observed the following in the indoor play area:
- A ledge in the nap room, play room and fire place area is not covered and could cause a child to injur themselves should they trip and fall.
- The material on the children's chairs are starting to chip away making the surface porrous. The Manager said they noticed this during the increased cleaning through Covid-19.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all time.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 3 reviewed, 2 employee Criminal Record Checks were not current(expired). The Manager said an application has been submitted for 1 of the employees and the other employee will not be working this year.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a current and valid Criminal Record Check is on file.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated June 29, 2022, there were 4 children in care with 2 staff.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by July 6, 2022 .
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.

The following education was provided:
Covid-19 vaccine status for staff
DLSOP Safe Play Space- Ensure there is a system in place to regularly check the maintenance of equipment.
Completing criminal record checks through the Criminal Records Review Program. Link provided.

This report was written off site and a copy of both the report and Risk Assessment was emailed to the facility. This report is unsigned due to health and safety practices during COVID-19.
