Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Files for five staff were reviewed. The manager stated all staff have had their references checked although two staff files have no evidence of references being checked.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure all staff have evidence of references being verified. The manager stated she will make notes when she calls references and keep them in the staff file.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 23, 2021 there were 15 children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this routine inspection a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. A copy of this inspection and the facility risk assessment tool were emailed to the manager.
The following recommendations were provided:
The facility copy of the parent contract can be kept in the child's file with the enrollment form.
If a family does not have a GP the name of the walk in clinic used can be kept in the child's file.
