Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During an audit of the washrooms, it was observed that one of the cabinets under the sink contained cleaners that were accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During an audit of the fire extinguishers, it was found that they needed servicing on Jan. 9, 2021.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire extinguishers are serviced and there is a plan to respond to and recover from any emergency.

Comments

At the time of inspection there were 11 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will send Licensing a written response addressing the contraventions and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The contents of this report was discussed with a staff person and emailed to the Licensee on Feb. 3, 2021.
