Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: A review of fire drills and emergency drill records found that several months did not have a practiced fire drill and emergency drill was not practiced for the year.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure there is a fire drill practiced and recorded each month. Emergency drills are required to be practiced and recorded one time per year

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: A review of children's files found that several of the files were missing MSP numbers and immunization status
Corrective Action(s): Ensure files are complete
Date to be Corrected: April 9, 2024

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: A review of daily attendance records found that the departure dates are missing from several days per month for the last 3 months
Corrective Action(s): Ensure daily attendance records are up to date regarding time of arrival and departure

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: A review of children's files found that some are missing medical practitioner and emergency contacts identified
Corrective Action(s): Ensure files are complete

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 17 children and 4 staff present. Licensing conducted a walk through of the entire facility.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by April 9, 2024. The Licensing Officer will review the response.
As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report. The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance that may be identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.
The contents of the inspection report was reviewed with the licensee contact onsite. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager on March 26, 2024.
The Licensing Officer met with the manager and discussed the following:
