Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: There are areas underneath the climber that have no pea gravel covering the ground. Pea gravel needs to be a minimum of 6" deep under all areas of the climber.
Corrective Action(s): The manager will submit a plan to Licensing outlining how this issue will be addressed.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The facility fire extinguishers have not been serviced within the past 12 months.
Corrective Action(s): The manger will ensure the fire extinguishes are serviced a minimum of once every 12 months.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated April 22, 2024 there were 21 children and five staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written on site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.

Ensuring staff references are verified and proof of verification is available and a minimum of two references are verified for all staff.
