Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection, licensing officer observed the nap mats stacked with sheets on one another in the GCC 30 month-school age program. Manager confirmed that these are the sheets that were used at nap time.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure mats are disinfected after each use.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 31, 2021 there were 28 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Certificate Validation – Manager is not able to validate one of the staff’s certificates. She will be calling the registry for support.
· Screen Time Policy – Discussed adding a piece that addresses children under 2 having no screen time
· Health and Safety – Manager has 2 sanitizing machines plugged in nap room of GCC under 36 months. Licensing officer and manager discussed not having the lower unit plugged in during nap time as the plug is at children’s level.

This report was discussed with the Manager/Staff and written off site.
