Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The Manager's name was not posted in a prominent place.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the Manager's name is posted in a prominent place in the facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, it was observed that a part of the wooden fence had multiple slats missing and in need of repair. The Manager put the slats back into place as a temporary fix and said that someone will be coming to fix the fence today.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that will ensure that children are free of harm.

Comments

At this inspection there were 3 children, 1 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will send Licensing a written response addressing the contraventions and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed/reviewed with the Manager:
Ages and number and the temporary placement process
Absent employees/Manager and when they must be replaced (CCLR s. 37)
Nap bedding and frequency of cleaning

The contents of this report was discussed with the Manager and a copy was emailed on May 3, 2022. This report was written off-site at the Tri-Cities Health Protection office and time spent includes report writing.
