Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: There were no written directions specified by the parent or care plan regarding the administration of medication.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all children's files are complete. LO discussed about including all the necessary information in the care plan & medication administration consent form.

Comments

On the inspection date of February 16, 2022, there were 10 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection, above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee is required to address the contravention noted to bring the facility into compliance.
This report was reviewed and discussed with the staff onsite. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. This inspection and the risk assessment were written off site and emailed to the facility the same day.
LO provided the following education/ had discussion with the staff:
- Response to Covid-19: In event the facility is closed due to staff shortage, i.e. unable to maintain staff:child ratio, submit a Reportable Incident to Licensing
- Toys and equipment storage: To store heavy items on lower shelves ( fall hazard prevention)
- Care Plans & Medication: Staff was made aware of children's care plan review dates and medication expiry dates
