Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
- Two puddles in the back yard with standing water
- Two tables with sharp corners (One in the kitchen where children eat; One in the play room placed against the wall)
- There are bins with books and various other materials stored on a high shelf in the main play space, that pose a falling risk
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the environment is healthy and safe.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed 4 bottles of bubble bath placed on a low table accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of the child

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 4 childrens files were reviewed, of which 4 were missing the sex
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep, for each child, a record showing the sex of the child

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: 4 children's records were reviewed, of which 1 child was missing an enrolment date
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep, for each child, a record showing the date of enrolment

Comments

At the inspection February 26, 2021 there were 8 children, 2 staff and the manager present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the Licensee includes providing a written response by March 12, 2021.
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.
As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.


The following education was conducted:
· Alcohol wipes/ Benzalkonium wipes in the first aid kit reviewed and discussed
· Administration of over the counter medicine discussed
· Discussed the use of care plans for children with epi-pens/inhalers
· Discussed strategies for the outdoor play space
