Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19140 - CCLR s.57(2)(h)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation: Permission to administer two types of medication were not available for one child.
Corrective Action(s): Please written permission is available for any medication that need to be administered at the facility.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19340 - CCLR s.59(c) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (c) produce records, on demand, to the medical health officer.
Observation: Staff files or current staff qualifications checklist was not available at this inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff files or a current staff qualification checklist is available.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19380 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Medication noted in a child's care plan was not available at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure medication noted in a care plan is available. If the medication is no longer required the care plan must be updated.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 23, 2023 there were eight children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the ITE staff person and a copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
The following were discussed:
Informing CCFL if any area of the facility is temporarily unavailable for use.
Parents signing care plans for children who have food sensitivities.
