Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During inspection Licensing observed :
- In the multi age program and infant and toddler naproom items were stored on the wall shelving that could potentially fall off these shelves in the event of an earthquake
-Several toys were stored in hallway in the infant and toddler program which serves as an emergency escape route.
-In the infant toddler classroom a play tent was tied with a string onto the door handle making it difficult to open the door.The staff explained that the play tent was stabilized by being fastened to the door handle Education was offered not to block doors and hallways to allow quick and easy exit in case of emergency. Staff corrected this during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 11,2022 there were nineteen children and four staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by August 15,2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the ECE staff:
Storage of toys and equipment in a way that does not pose a risk to children in an event of an earthquake.
Ensure that attendance records clearly identify the program they are attending.
Bottles of cleaning solution must be clearly labelled.
Communicable Disease Illness Plan

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email onAugust 12,2022 .
