Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: During the routine inspection 3 staff files were reviewed and one staff file was missing a validation of an ECEA certificate.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff files are completed.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the routine inspection of the attendance records it was observed that on a few days in October some times of departure were missing.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all attendance records are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated November 01, 2023 there were 21 children, 3 staff and one student (observing) present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

- Minor incident log book is under utilized and was discussed further. Licensing also recommends using a bound book to protect the integrity of the information recorded.
- Licensing observed that the manager did not have a resume on file but has been at the facility for the last 27 years. Licensing recommends that a resume is added to the manager's file.
- Lead in the Water – flushing the pipes to remove any impurities before using the drinking water
